According to a report from the Galloway Township Police Department, a tractor-trailer driven by Greg Hoover, 23, of Seabrook, with a passenger, Amberline Faison, 22, of Bridgeton, was traveling west on Route 30 and allegedly failed to obey a red traffic signal at Pomona Road.

The tractor-trailer then struck a Toyota Tundra, operated by Gary Brenner, 36, of Galloway Township, as he was traveling south on Pomona Road. The rig then struck a second vehicle traveling south on Pomona Road. That vehicle, a Mercedes Benz, was occupied by the driver, Robert Bozzuto, 60, and his passenger, Sandra Nilan, 71, both of Galloway Township.

The tractor-trailer then struck a Chevy Cruze, occupied by the driver, William Anthony Jr., 69, front passenger Joyce Anthony, 66, and rear passenger William Anthony III, 41, all from Hammonton. The Chevy Cruze overturned and was pinned under the tractor-trailer.

The accident occurred at 10:43 a.m.

The driver of the third vehicle, William Anthony Jr., later died at the hospital. The condition of the others is unknown at this time.

The driver of the Tundra, Brenner, was an off-duty Galloway Township police officer, who reported the accident on his cell phone before exiting his vehicle and rendering aid to the occupants of the other vehicles.

The intersection was closed to traffic for approximately five hours with the assistance of NJ DOT while the scene was investigated.

Any charges are pending the completion of the investigation.
