FDA Warns L'Oreal Over Anti-Aging Products

The Wall Street Journal (9/12, B3, Dooren, Glazer, Subscription Publication) reports that in a letter dated Sept. 7, the FDA warned L'Oréal's Lancôme USA subsidiary that its online ads falsely promotes anti-wrinkle products as having medical benefits. Quoting from the Warning Letter, the Journal notes that FDA particularly objected to Lancôme's claim that one of the anti-aging products "boosts the activity of genes and stimulates the production of youth proteins."

Reuters (9/12, Yukhananov) notes the agency also objected to the L'Oreal unit's assertion that an in vitro genetic test substantiates its product claims.

The AP (9/12) adds that the Warning Letter "instructs the company to respond to regulators in 15 business days with a plan for correcting the language" in website ads for "Genefique Youth Activating Concentrate and similar anti-wrinkle cosmetics."
