Pfizer Consumer Healthcare, a business of Pfizer, Inc., is voluntarily recalling one lot of its ThermaCare HeatWraps menstrual product distributed in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
"The company said it is taking this precautionary step after finding a potential for a leak of the components contained in the wrap, which could cause skin injury such as irritation or burn," the FDA said.
The issue only affects products from lot E06831 with an expiration date of Aug. 2012. The lot number can be found on the outer carton of the product and the foil pouch.
While Pfizer Consumer Healthcare is removing all of the recalled products from store shelves, the company is also asking that consumers who have purchased the recalled product record the lot number and immediately dispose of the product without opening its foil pouch.
